Hello Atlanta!
We are so excited to be launching Galette just in time for all the impending holiday magic! This venture is something we’ve been thinking about for a long time and it’s incredibly rewarding to see it start to take shape and become a reality.
So let’s get pumped with a little Q&A….
So, what is Galette?
Ah, mystery question asker, what a great question! Galette is an endeavor that brings us into your home to create an unforgettable culinary experience. We understand that that’s a big vague, so let’s get a little more specific. We have three main types of “culinary experiences” that we offer:
1. Experiential Culinary Parties: Ever taken a cooking class and thought about how much fun it would be to have your friends over and have a cooking class in the comfort of your own home? Us too! So we decided to make that a thing. We’ll come over to your house and lead you and your friends in preparing a fabulous dinner together. Or maybe you’re more interested in baking or brunch? We have you covered there too.
2. Private Cooking Classes: Other people? Whatever. You’re more interested in learning how to cook in a one on one situation. This is a great option for you. From our 4 session Cooking 101 Series and Baking 101 Series, to a 2 day Advanced Pastry workshop, to something a little more tailor-made, we have great options for someone who feels overwhelmed in the kitchen and needs a little help to master the basics, to someone who is really interested in mastering croissants or macarons and would benefit from that one on one instruction in your own home.
3. Small Batch Catering: So, while our other options are for folks who really want to get a hands-on culinary experience, sometimes we just want a little help with a special occasion. Our small batch catering arm is designed for those times when you want to host an intimate dinner or cocktail party, but don’t want to be hopping between the shower and the stove as you get ready for guests. We’ll come over and cook dinner for you and your guests in your kitchen, or prepare some delightful hors d’oeuvres in your home for your small cocktail party. All the tasty food with none of the time in the kitchen.
Okay, neat! But what is a “galette”?
First of all, I would like to point out that, yes, the question mark in your question falls outside of the parentheses. Well done, grammar master. Next, a galette is kind of a free-form pie. Instead of cooking a whole pie in a pie tin, you just lay the dough flat, add some filling and pleat the edges over the edges of the filling. They are rustic, beautiful and a terrific way to play with new flavors or use up bits of this and that from your fridge at the end of the week. We are pretty into galettes.
How did you two meet and embark upon this grand adventure?
We met at Sur la Table, where we both taught cooking classes. Ashley was the resident chef and hired Morgan. While prepping out weekend morning classes, we discovered a mutual love of 90’s jams and broadway musicals, and those mornings were thereafter dubbed “musical mornings with Ashley and Morgan.” We also like alliteration.
But in all seriousness, we share a love of cooking, food, and teaching, and look forward to sharing that love with you.
